More on the ATS
2010-11-05
It has been confirmed that Cadillac plans to roll out the 2013 ATS sedan in the fall of 2012 followed by an ATS coupe as a 2014 model nine months later. A convertible is also expected to be unveiled 9 months after the coupe. Additionally, a V-Series is also in the oven for the 2015 model year. Announcements by Lansing, Michigan Mayor Virg Bernero and General Motors affirmed that Cadillac’s new ATS compact sedan will be built at GM’s Lansing Grand River plant. Currently the plant assembles the Cadillac CTS and STS. With an investment to the tune of $190 million to modify the Lansing Grand River assembly plant, Cadillac’s ATS model will fit below the CTS and is expected to rival the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and BMW 3-Series. “We will have a car positioned below the CTS in our lineup to compete with the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C class.” said Cadillac spokesman Nick Twork. Accordingly, the new ATS will come standard with a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, with a V6 optional. Meanwhile, an ATS-V which is expected to debut in 2015 will be powered by a V8 engine or twin turbo V6. The drivetrain of the ATS sedan will sport a shorter wheelbase than that of the CTS and possibly one or two of the CTS’s powerplants. The ATS will be developed on GM’s new rear-drive Alpha vehicle platform and be used for a range of models namely a sedan, coupe, convertible and possibly a wagon. GM expects the smaller Cadillac to be more acceptable as an export model. Furthermore, GM’s investment in Lansing is expected to create a total of 600 jobs as a result in the addition of a second shift to produce the ATS. source:sportscarmonitor- Recent News & Events
