Infiniti M35h to quiet
2010-11-19
Here's an interesting twist: Infiniti is going to equip its 2012 Infiniti M35h, its first in-house developed hybrid, with a noisemaker to warn pedestrians of its approach. Until now, noisemakers were only talked about in context with pure electric cars, like Nissan's Leaf. But never missing a marketing opportunity, apparently Nissan luxury division Infiniti wants to underscore how quiet the new M is by having the warning system when the car goes on sale early next year. source: usatoday.com The M hybrid debuted Thursday at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The car can travel up to 62 miles an hour on electric power alone, when it would travel almost silently, but can only do so for about a mile at a time before its batteries run dry and are recharged by the engine. The new audible warning system, called Approaching Vehicle Sound for Pedestrians (VSP), uses a range of distinctive sounds to help ensure the safety of other road users. VSP automatically works from start-up to approximately 20 mph, cutting back in at approximately 15 mph as the vehicle slows.- Recent News & Events
